The New York Sailing Club is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1970 which promotes, organizes and oversees sailboat  activities, including racing in and around  New York City and on the Long Island Sound.

2008 On Shore Calendar of Events

Meetings are held September through May on the third Thursday of the month at various restaurants in Manhattan. The website front page gives information on the address of the location for that month. Dinner is at 6:00pm and the Presentation is at 7:00pm. There is no charge for admission.

January 17: Captain Gary Cassidy of the Oyster Bay Sloop, the Christeen, an oyster sloop restored by the Oyster Bay Waterfront Center. A U.S. Merchant Marine Officer and sailboat buff who has owned and restored many vessels. The Parlour, 250 W. 86th and Broadway. Near #1 train stop.

February 21: JP Trusilek on Newport Yachting as the Gateway to the World – Journey through a Nautical Life. Rescues classic yachts, races successfully, 3 circumnavigations and 12 Atlantic crossings. Trustee of the Executive Board of the Museum of Yachting in Newport. The Parlour, 250 W. 86th near Broadway. Take #1 train to 86th Street stop.

March 20: Dan Lehman demonstrates some techniques from the Seamanship Series Book: Repairs at Sea. It could save your boat, your mast, your life. When trouble goes down, will you be prepared? At Maria’s Mount Blanc Restaurant, 315 W. 48th St. Reasonable Swiss food.

April 17: Tom Cunningham from the NYFD Fire Boat John Jay Harvey. The vessel and its crew were pumping seawater for 80 continuous hours fighting the fires of 9 / 11. At Jack Demsey’s, 36 West 33rd Street.





2007 On Shore Calendar of Events

Meetings are held September through May and September through November at Raymond's Cafe, 88 Seventh Avenue (16th street), New York City. We usually begin the meeting around 8:00 PM preceded by a social hour - cash bar or dinner.

Thursday, January 18: Bill Bacon will talk about the Star Clipper sailing vessel cruises in the Caribbean, Mediterranean (including the Aegean Sea) and East Asia. These are enormous sailing vessels - one of them has five square-rigged masts and is over 400 feet. Dinner at 6, Social at 7, Presentation, 7:30, at Jack Demsey's, 36 W. 33rd Street.

Thursday, February 15: Sea chanteys by Eric, Hillary and Jan for your listening enjoyment and sing along. (Oh, a capital ship for an ocean trip...). Jack Demsey's, 36 W. 33rd Street. Dinner at 6, Social at 7, Presentation, 7:30pm.

Thursday, March 15: "Going Coastal" with Barbara LaRocco, President and 2006 recipient of the Clean Marina Award of New York Harbors. Place to be announced.

Thursday, April 19: "At Sea in the city," a presentation by William Kornblum, CUNY professor, author and sailor of New York waterfront harbors. Jack Demsey's, 36 W. 33rd Street. Dinner at 6, Social at 7, Presentation at 7:30pm.

New York Sailing Club Spring Mixer at the NY Skyport Marina, East 23rd Street.
Come out for a sail in the Harbor, 11 :00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Non-members, $20 fee.

May 20, Sunday
